Great War Huts is proud to present the 1916 silent film The Battle of the Somme, complete with live piano accompaniment by leading silent film pianist Stephen Horne.
This is a unique opportunity to see this groundbreaking film, which made cinematic history as it was originally seen, in our restored First World War Soldiers' Recreation Hut.
During the first two months of its original release, it is estimated that The Battle of the Somme sold over 20 million tickets (almost half the British population at that time) were sold in Great Britain. The film was distributed world-wide to demonstrate to allies and neutrals Britain’s commitment to the war effort. The film will be set in context with a short introduction by Taff Gillingham.
Light refreshments will be available to purchase on the night.
Seats are limited, and booking in advance is essential. Our evening performance has now sold out, however, Mr Stephen Horne has kindly agreed to perform for our matinée. Tickets available below.
