About the event
Hut of the Antarctic - Conserving the legacy of the Heroic Era
The Heroic Era of Antarctic exploration spanned the first two decades of the 20th century. These early explorers have left their legacy in the form of several simple wooden huts which have stood the test of time in what is the harshest environment on earth.
Geoff Cooper has spent six austral summers surveying and conserving these huts. His talk covers a brief history of the expeditions and the conservation status of these early explorers huts and describes some of the conservation work which has been conducted on them as well as what it is like to live and work in remote field camps at the other end of the world.
The talk will be followed by a Q&A.
