About the event
How long would you search for a son missing in action? Two years, three years? Five years? This is the astonishing true story of one woman’s determination to find her son - a pilot killed on the Somme battlefields. The story is remarkable enough, but the letters written by Francis from the Western Front are both moving and compelling too.
Richard van Emden interviewed over 270 veterans of the Great War and has written 16 books on the subject, including the autobiography of Harry Patch, "The Last Fighting Tommy". He has also worked on more than a dozen television programmes on the First World War, including "Britain’s Last Tommies," "Britain’s Boy Soldiers," and BBC's "The Trench".
