Visit Great War Huts

No, Great War Huts is not open as a traditional daily museum. It is an ongoing heritage project with plenty of work still taking place. We do open for guided tours, talks, study days and special events throughout the year which must be pre-booked via our events page.

Yes, booking is strongly recommended for all events and tours as places are often limited and events tend to get booked up very quickly.

Most visitors spend between 1.5 and 3 hours on site depending on the event. We usually state the timings on our event page.

Yes, free parking is available on site.

Due to the rural location of Great War Huts, public transport is very limited .The nearest railway station is a 12 minute taxi ride away. There is a limited bus service which runs once a day - more details can be found here.

If you are bringing a party on a coach the driver MUST approach Brook Farm Camp along Bells Lane, past the Village Green and across the River Lark, from the direction of Bury Road, through Hawstead village then turning right into our Entrance.Coaches CANNOT reach us by travelling down Bells Lane from the Stanningfield Road end as the coach will not be able to turn left into our entrance.

Yes! Well behaved dogs are very welcome at Great War Huts.To help everyone enjoy their visit, we ask that dogs are kept on a lead at all times and that owners clean up after them if needed.Our resident Hut Dog, Charlie Chaplin, is usually on site to greet visitors. If your dog is nervous around other dogs, please let us know when you arrive and we'll be happy to keep Charlie indoors during your visit.

A café is planned as part of the ongoing development of Great War Huts. While we're not there just yet, visitors can enjoy tea, coffee, squash and biscuits in exchange for a donation to the project.Many of our events also include refreshments, and some study days and special events include lunch as part of the ticket price. Our Hutted Histories events usually feature a range of Jane's famous cakes. Details of what's included can be found on the individual event pages.Every donation helps support the ongoing restoration and preservation of our historic First World War huts, so by enjoying a cuppa you're helping to preserve an important part of our heritage.
