Hutted Histories: Sucked Oranges - 54th (East Anglian) Division at Suvla Bay

No artillery, no divisional signal company, no field ambulances, no ammunition, no mules and vanishing battalions. The 54th (East Anglian) Division were described  as "sucked oranges", lacking the fighting spirit. How true was this statement of the men from East Anglia? Find out in this Hutted Histories event!

Stephen Chambers is Trustee and historian of the Gallipoli Association. Whilst Gallipoli is his prime passion, he also has in-depth knowledge of many British military campaigns and battles that include the Zulu War to the end of the WW2. Stephen is an accredited battlefield guide, author and researcher. He has written several books in the Pen & Sword Battleground Europe series on Gallipoli, and also Uniforms & Equipment of the British Army in World War One (Schiffer Books, 2005). With Richard van Emden he co-authored Gallipoli: The Dardanelles Disaster in Soldiers' Words and Photographs (Bloomsbury, 2015), and his latest work, Krithia, was recently published in 2021. When not writing, Stephen is on the battlefield, continuing his research and guiding groups. The best way to study a campaign is to walk in the footsteps of those involved, whether in the grasslands of Zululand, the mud of Flanders or the beaches of Normandy. Stephen is a member of the WFA, Orders and Medals Research Society and is an accredited member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides (Badge No.75). One day he will retire from the rat-race to concentrate on his passion for history, and walking the old front lines.
