About the event

Horror duo The Deadtectives come to Great War Huts to celebrate a spooky anniversary as the legendary horror film Nosferatu turns 100 years old!

Directed by First World War German veteran, F.W Murnau, this highly influential silent horror film Nosferatu sees the mysterious Count Orlok (Max Schreck) summon Thomas Hutter (Gustav von Wangenheim) to his remote castle in mountainous Transylvania...

Nosferatu was an unauthorised and unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula. Various names and other details were changed from the novel, including Count Dracula being renamed as Count Orlok. Although these changes are often represented as a defence against copyright infringement, the original German title cards acknowledged Dracula as the source.

Despite several details being altered, Stoker's heirs sued over the adaptation, and a court ruling ordered all copies of the film to be destroyed. Fortunately, several prints of Nosferatu survived, and the film came to be regarded as a masterpiece of cinema and staked its claim in horror history!
