About the event

On the 110th anniversary of the outbreak of war in 1914, you may assume that there was one straightforward way of joining the Army. However, there were in fact numerous routes.

The theme for the 2024 Heritage Open Days festival is 'Routes, Networks, Connections'. Our special exhibition for Heritage Open Days will explore these journeys and the very different types of service personnel they produced. Join us for the exhibition and a chance to look around the site here at Great War Huts, including our 1916 trench system.
